Abstract; We are demonstrating a small scale gasification and power generation system with high efficiency and low emission by using a Stirling engine for biomass fuels. This system utilizes about 100 kg/hour of chicken manure to generate net electrical power output of 55 kW. We have conducted engine unit tests to clarify the effect of the heating value of gas fuel on engine performance with the use of natural gas diluted by nitrogen gas. As the result, we confirmed that almost constant power output can be obtained within the heating value range (13.78 - 25.60 MJ/Nm'3') and demonstrated rated power generation with electrical efficiency of 30%. This paper also describes the achievements of the engine operated in the completed commercial system. (author abst.)
