| Abstract;Fulminant type 1 diabetes mellitus is a new subtype belonging to type 1 diabetes mellitus, which the authors reported in 2000 for the first time. This disease occupies 15-20% of the Japanese type 1 diabetes mellitus contracted with ketosis. The features are, it is contracted very rapidly showing diabetes mellitus-related antibody negative and accompanying ketoacidosis, and in the crisis, in spite of showing obvious hyperglycemia, HbA1c is normal or slightly increased, and endogenous insulin secretion is already depleted at the crisis. Since the disease is contracted very rapidly and shows a violent symptom, it was named as shown above. Disease is contracted due to the destruction of pancreatic beta cells which secrete insulin, and the treatment by insulin injection is indispensable. |
