Abstract; To explore the factors that affect rheumatoid arthritis (RA) outpatients' performance in home exercise, a cross-sectional study of outpatients of Hospital A was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire. Of 64 RA outpatients, 57 (89.1 %) exercised at home. Factors related to better performance were short duration of disease (p=0.007), no history of surgery for RA (p=0.025), and low perception of difficulty in performing home exercises (p=0.015). Factors related to higher perception of difficulty in performing home exercises were low age (p=0.001), high body mass index (BMI) value (p=0.001), history of admission for RA (p=0.010), and strong mental distress (p=0.002). We conclude that patients should be educated in the early stage of disease and that education should focus on patients' difficulties in performing home exercises, in particular for patients who are young, have a high BMI value and have previously been admitted for RA.
