| Abstract;Recently, there has been increasing awareness of the global environment, and "environmental burden", "global warming", and so on have become familiar expressions. Companies are making positive efforts to develop earth-conscious products and approaches to consumers to position themselves apart from the rest. This paper investigates the present situation of companies' earth-conscious approaches to consumers. Most companies disclose information on web-sites and in environmental reports. However, these approaches are made to promote the correct understanding of global environmented problems. Interviews with consumers show that an added value of some sort is needed to encourage them to accept these approaches. They also show that these approaches have not triggered earth-conscious action by consumers due to the lack of a real sense of crisis. It is important to enlighten and educate consumers in a concrete and easily understandable way within familiar situations. (author abst.) |
