Abstract;Lycopene is known as the red carotenoids that found predominantly in tomatoes and in a few other fruits, and vegetables. Claim have been made that lycopene may be benefical in diseases or the other chronic conditions. In human body, lycopene protects against oxidative damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA that caused to the cancer. In the recent studies, tomato powder contained lycopene inhibited prostate carcinogenesis, but not pure lycopene. This result suggests that lycopene synergic effect with other micronutrients in the tomato. And the intake of the tomato food products or tomato extracts reduced the risk of prostate, gastric, breast cancer, coronary heart disease, and skin erythema most likely due to the action of lycopene, This mechanism may be that lycopene has the action as antioxidant, inhibition of cancer cell proliferation, interference with growth factor stimulation of it, prevention by inducing the phase II enzymes, and regulation of transcription.
