Abstract; We report an unusual case of lung trauma caused by a foreign body in a child. A 3-year-old boy accidentally shot himself with a nail-gun that his father was using at work. (Nail-guns are commonly used in the building industry.) The tip of the nail passed through the superior lobe of the right lung, and came near to penetrating the superior vena cava. Under general anesthesia, we could carefully pull out the nail, the length of which was 5 cm, without lobectomy or producing major hemorrhage. Preoperative evaluation by computed topography was necessary, so that we could see the position of the foreign body and whether vessels were injured or not. (author abst.)
