| Abstract; How to manage the relationship between cities and Nature is not a hypothetical issue any more, but already getting one of the major issues Japan has to face. To solve this issue, we have to create the environment in which cities breathe together with forests and farmlands. There seems to be two measures to solve this issue. To re-establish circulatory systems mediated by water systems, and to introduce a new land-development plan to re-establish effective networks of green lands made of plants. In EXPO 2005, which is going to be held in Nagoya, Japan, a gigantic device to help our future forestation of the earth, called "BIO LUNG" is to be exhibited. This is not only as one of the exhibitions, but also presented as a model which could be utilized to clean the air in cities, placed vertically in cities as a breathing screen. This is to aim at the purification of urban environment by using the most advanced technologies to combine systems provided by water and plants. This paper is to elaborate on this issue, considering how the relationship between cities and Nature should be in the future. (author abst.) |
