Abstract; The present state of IPv6 and its relating "e! Project" is outlined. The IPv6 is characterized by expansion of the address space, addition of plug-and-play, extension of authentication function, and addition of QoS. In the "e-Japan Strategy" issued in January 2001, the Japanese government proposed realization of Internet environment by IPv6. Responding to it, the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications (MPHPT) has begun research for enhancement of competitive strength of home information appliances industry. Also among industry, movements such as "WIDE Project" aiming to realize new computing environment are found. "e! Project" is a strategy using IPv6 and based on "e-Japan 2002 Program", which is forwarded by MPHPT, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, where MPHPT is responsible for demonstration experiments aiming at realizing e-government and e-municipalities at several places in Japan. Moreover, MPHPT carries out its own plan of demonstration about application of IT at 6 fields of education, local government, nursing care etc. The outlines of this demonstration are described.
