| Abstract; The operations of hemorrhoids have been carried out even before Christ, but improved with the times. At the present, sure operations are available for anyone without losing the anal function. Our understanding and treatment focus have changed from how to extract the hemorrhoids to how to preserve the anal function. This paper describes a history of hemorrhoids operations under the following chapters: Ancient times (operations in Babylonia and Egypt, therapies using corrosive drugs in India, corrosive therapies using arsenic and mercury compounds in China, a surgical operation by Hippokrates, a operation scalpel excavated in Pompeii), Medieval Ages (ligation method, open hemorrhoidectomy), Japan (Hanaoka method), Modern ages (avoidance of anal malfunction by anal sphincter protection). |
