| Abstract; The distal phalangeal fracture of the hand is a common trauma, but has various problem. Survey was made of bone healing of distal phalangeal fracture found in 56 digits from 52 patients who had been treated at this Department from 1991 to 2001. These were classified into three levels. Twenty-four digits were classified as tuft fracture, 21 digits as shaft fracture, and 11 digits as base fracture . Forty-six digits healed completely, and 10 digits showed delayed union or non-union. Delayed union or non-union was found in 40% of tuft fracture. In the cases of the closed fracture of the tuft, splinting is the best therapy. In the cases of the open fracture of the shaft and base, use of intemal fixation is important for prevention of non-union. (author abst.) |
