Abstract; For the purpose of eliminating polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC) popularly used for covering (insulation and outer jacket) of power cord, a safety evaluation method for PVC-free materials was developed while verifying the safety level of such materials under the current standard. By extracting the user requirements for power cords, an evaluation method for anti-damage and anti-drop shock strength was developed. Based on this result, PVC-free power cords were observed to have inferior performance with regard to damage and "drop-shock" resistance compared with PVC power cords. The level of safety under the current standard was confirmed equivalent to that of PVC power cord. (author abst.)
