| Abstract;A clinical study was conducted to investigate the usefulness of EN036, a vitamin E (d-.ALPHA.-tocopherol) preparation containing Japanese angelica root extract and red ginseng root extract, for indefinite climacteric complaints. A total of 107 patients were studied. The main findings were as follows. 1. The improvement rating by symptom was "slightly improved" or better in 83.3% of patients for hot flashes, 64.4% for feeling of cold, 66.2% for shoulder stiffness, 63.0% for numbness in the hands and feet, 73.4% for heavy feeling in the head, 61.6% for lassitude, and 65.0% for perspiration. 2. The global improvement rating was "slightly improved" or better in 93.6% of patients. 3. Adverse reactions occurred in 10.1% of patients, and none were serious. 4. The overall safety rating showed "no problems" with safety in 90.9% of patients. 5. The drug was "slightly useful" or better in 87.8% of patients. It is concluded from the above results that EN036 is a useful drug for alleviating indefinite climacteric complaints. (author abst.) |
