Abstract;Human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) is widely used for the treatment for infertile patients. In the present study, we investigated the ovarian stimulating effects of a hMG preparation, HMG Injection Teizo, in immature rats. In the first experiment, immature female rats were injected subcutaneously with HMG Injection Teizo (0.42, 1.25 or 3.75 u/rat) for 3 days, and the ovarian weights were determined. The drug increased significantly the ovarian weights at the dose levels of 1.25 and 3.75 u/rat. Histological examination revealed that the ovaries in 1.25 and 3.75 u/rat groups involved many mature follicles. In the second experiment, immature female rats were injected subcutaneously with HMG Injection Teizo (0.05, 0.25 or 1.25 u/rat) for 4 days, and were followed by the subcutaneous injection with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG; 15 u/rat). Ovulation was observed in all animals at the dose level of 1.25 u/rat. In conclusion, HMG Injection Teizo stimulated the development of ovarian follicles, and induced ovulation after hCG injection in immature female rats. (author abst.)
