Abstract; Objectives: In recent years, our attention is now focused on diabetic gastropathy, one of the complications of diabetes mellitus. Although there have been many reports on gastric function, they have concentrated on gastric emptying and there have been no report from the view of intragastric distribution. We used capsules containing contrast medium to investigate gastric emptying and intragastric distribution from changes in the number of capsules in the stomach in patients with diabetic gastropathy. We also examined changes caused by mosapride citrate. Methods: We studied 12 patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes (HbA1c 8.6 .+-. 0.9) in a diabetic group (DM), 19 normal individuals in a control group (CONTROL). We observed changes in the number of capsules remaining in the stomach and in distribution were examined under X-ray fluoroscopy at 0, 5, 15, 45, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 min. after oral administration of 15 capsules containing contrast medium and 200mL of Okunos-A as reported previously. Observations were made separately in the proximal stomach and distal stomach. Results: The total number of capsules emptied from the stomach was lower in the DM than in the CONTROL (p<0.0001). In intragastric distribution, the number of capsules remaining in the proximal stomach decreased at an early stage (p<0.038), but emptying of the capsules from the distal stomach was delayed (p=0.0001) in the DM compared with the CONTROL....
