Abstract;ALOS, a satellite for land observation technology, is being developed by the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) for the purposes of preparing maps, observing regions, grasping disaster situations, and proving natural resources. It can be used for various applications in civil engineering and hydrology because it upgrades land observation technology of land observation satellites and because it is equipped with technology for efficient handling of obtained data and for high-precision determination of the position and posture of satellites necessary for data processing. An explanation is given on the outline of ALOS and other sensors, an improvement plan for each of the sensors promoted by NASDA and the Earth Observation Research Center (EORC), products of high level and experimental manufacturing research, and their verification plans.
