Abstract; The safety and effectiveness of propiverine hydrochloride (BUP-4 tablet) were examined with one-year follow-up at six university medical centers in Japan. A total of 553 patients with 79 hospitals was registered. Changes in subjective symptoms showed significant improvement in mean frequency of urination in the daytime from 10.2.+-.3.6 times before administration to 7.2.+-.2.5 times one-year after the start of administration. At night mean frequency of urination changed from 4.0.+-.1.5 to 2.0.+-.1.0 times and mean frequency of urinary incontinence changed from 3.0.+-.2.4 to 1.0.+-.1.6 times. The final overall improvement rate was 58.3% (228/391 cases). The adverse reaction were observed in 88 patients out of 450 (19.6%). They consisted of digestive symptoms in 11.6% (33 thirst, 10 constipation, 3 nausea, and 2 diarrheas etc.), urinary tract symptoms in 5.6% (13 dysuria, 7 residual urine, and 4 urinary retentin etc.) and others. These results suggest that propiverine hydrochloride was effective to the patients who had the urinary frequency and the urine incontinence, and was also safe to the long-term use. (author abst.)
