Abstract; We treated a case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from mature cystic teratoma in a 73-year-old patient who developed hypercalcemia with production of parathyroid hormone-related protein. The tumor size was 13*8cm, and the serum calcium level was 11.7mg/dl. Despite poor preoperative general condition, dramatic improvement was observed postoperatively and serum calcium decreased to the normal range immediately. The serum level of PTHrP was 250.2pmol/l and intact PTH was 10pg/ml preoperatively. ABC immunohistochemical staining detected expression of PTHrP in the cancer cell cytoplasm. We therefore diagnosed this case as hypercaicemia with PTHrP production from the ovarian carcinoma. (author abst.)
