| Abstract; In Japan, the need for skin rejuvenation is increasing year by year. However, ablative procedure causes post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in Asian skin classified in type III to V of Fitzpatrick's skin classification. So a nonablative procedure has been sought. We experienced photo-rejuvenation by Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL is the noncoherent broad-spectrum light emitted from a flash lamp, and it has been shown to improve pigmented lesions, telangiectasia, and skin texture, including fine wrinkles, with no downtime. We used the machine, Photoderm Vasculight Plus (ESC Sharplan), one of the IPL families. We treated 102 cases, three to six treatments at intervals of two to three weeks. Both patients and physicians evaluated the results, into four levels, at the end of the third and fifth treatments: excellent, good, poor, and no change, of classification. A combined rating of excellent and good was given to over 90% of patients to the pigmentation, over 80% to the telangiectasia, over 60% to the large pores, and over 35% to the fine wrinkles. There were some minor complications in three cases, minor blisters leaving no marks. Photo-rejuvenation by IPL is a completely safe and effective. (author abst.) |
