Abstract; The multivalued information such as zip code, ID number, telephone number, and book number are widely used, and the reliability of these multivalued information have been very important. The conventional single symbol error correcting code for multivalued information ( m -ary information, m>2 ) has the following problems : 1)For hamming code, the code is only constructed over integer rings which the unknown number m is a prime number or power of prime number, and 2) for AN code, the code is non-systematic code. This paper proposes the single symbol error correcting code which constructs the code by the following processes : 1)Find the inspection symbols on two kinds of integer rings and prime fields, 2)convert these inspection symbols to m-ary symbol which is equal to the information symbol, and 3)add the comverted symbols to the information symbol. As the results, if the unknown number m is not a prime number or power of prime number then the proposed code excels the conventional code concerning the length of code. In addition, the detection rate against the error over the code functions such as double symbol error has been clarified.
