Abstract;Regenerative fuel cell(RFC) system combined with photovoltaic cells is one of the most suitable power system for future long term continuous power supply in space because of its high specific energy(Wh/kg). We have started the fundamental study of RFC in 1998 for the airship stationary keeping its position at an altitude of approximately 20km(in stratosphere) during 3 years. The conditions of the stratosphere are that an ambient temperature of -56.DEG.C. and a pressure of 40hPa. These conditions are rather gentle compared to those in space. Based on our feasibility study of RFC system for the airship and current trends, we discussed technical issues to be solved for future RFC applications in space. (author abst.)
