| Abstract; To contribute to cost reduction of space mechanisms, NASDA began to study the applicability of industrial vacuum ball bearings for space use. This activity aims to establish the testing standards for industrial bearings and to evaluate their performance. As a second-year result of our activity, we will present the results of evaluation tests conducted to the industrial vacuum bearings. The evaluation tests are based on the draft testing standards, and consist of three kinds of test: an air-atmosphere resistant test, a thermal vacuum test, and a vibration test. About 90 industrial bearings manufactured by three companies were tested, and most of the bearings exhibited excellent tribological performance. It can be concluded from this result that the industrial vacuum bearings have very good potentiality and are promising for space use. (author abst.) |
