| Abstract;A monitoring method using acoustic-emission(AE) sensors is proposed to estimate the life-time of the strain wave gearing to drive a solar paddle of a small satellite. Degradation characteristics of the strain wave gearing are evaluated by the AE signals and their FFT data. When the strain wave gearing breaks down, the peak values of power spectrum within 15kHz increase approximately 100 times as large as those of initial state. Failure mode of the strain wave gearing are divided into following two categories. One is a degradation failure which occurs when contact parts hold little grease. Another is a catastrophic failure which occurs when hard particles get into bearings or gears. (author abst.) |
