| Abstract; The efficacy of electrolysis to reduce the opacity due to corneal granular dystrophy was investigated. Twenty-two eyes of 15 patients were treated by electrolysis at Nihon University Hospital between 1984 and 1996. The results were evaluated in the initial treated cases(22 eyes) and in the re-treated cases(17 eyes in total) of the initial treated cases. In the initial treated cases, the average visual acuity improved from 0.33 to 0.57 and the best corrected visual acuity was obtained within one month in 14 eyes(63.6%). Spherical equivalent refraction after the treatment was within .+-.1.0 diopter in 19 eyes(86.4%). In the re-treated cases, the average of visual acuity improved from 0.30 to 0.47 and the best corrected visual acuity was obtained within one month in 10 eyes(58.8%). The spherical equivalent refraction after the treatment was within .+-.1.0 diopter in 11 eyes(64.7%). It is concluded that electrolysis is worthwhile to be applied to treat corneal granular dystrophy as the first choice, because of tendency of this dystrophy to recurr. (author abst.) |
