Abstract;Recently an increase in the incidence of benign breast tumors after autologous fat micro-transplantaion has been observed. We named this tumor lipo-injection induced tumor(LIT). 24 cases of LIT were diagnosed between April, 1996 and April, 1998. Breast examination was performed by means of palpation, ultrasonography, mammography, and aspiration cytology. On palpation LIT felt as a round hard-elastic, and usually bilateral tumor. By ultrasonography cysts, intra-cystic papillary lesions, or circumscribed solid tumors were defected. Mammograms showed a wide retro-mammary space, round high-density tumors, or calcified coin lesions. Discrimination between LIT and other neoplasms was sometimes difficult without aspiration cytology, core needle biopsy and confirmation of the past history of lipo-injection. 6 cases of cysts without a solid lesion were treated by aspiration. 4 cases were left untreated. Lumpectomy was performed on the remaining 14 cases. To avoid scar formation and subtotal excision, we developed a decompression technique which involves the dissection of the cyst wall through a peri-areolar incision and excision of the tumor after aspiration of the central necrosis.
