Abstract; In electronic and optical systems it is necessary to convert a linearly polarized wave into a circularly polarized wave. Such converters utilized in the field of microwave engineering are generally termed "circularizers". The simplest type of circularizer is a parallel-metal-plate structure which is widely used for suppression of precipitation clutter in radar systems. The disadvantage is that this circularizer tends to be quite large physically. In this paper, a thin circularizer of practical interest is described which has been designed employing both the TE10 and the TEM modes in homogeneous dielectric filled, metal plates. (author abst.)
