HVD is an acronym for holographic versatile disc. These discs use red and blue-green lasers collimated in a single beam. It is a next-general standard for optical discs following Blue-Ray, HD, and DVD. Holographic memory media are considered difficult to commercialize for such reasons as noise generation and incompatibility with DVD technology, but they have the advantages of storage capacity 40 times that of DVD technology and higher transfer speeds.
