This plan, promoted by the Tokyo metropolitan government, seeks to develop ubiquitous environments for the sharing of information by linking the functions of computers and portable devices in designated areas of Tokyo. Experiments with participating commercial districts were conducted in 2007 in Ueno and 2008 in Ginza. In addition, a technology exhibition was held in Akihabara in 2007. With this system, visitors to an area can use portable terminals to obtain information on tourist spots, walking routes, and shops they would like to go to from IC tags set up in the area.
