The Fukutoshin Line is a new subway line in the Tokyo Metro system that connects the city of Wako in Saitama Prefecture with Shibuya Station in Tokyo. It was opened on June 14, 2008. The new line has a total length of 20.4 kilometers. The line runs parallel to and somewhat inside the JR Yamanote Line and connects three main downtown shopping and entertainment districts—Ikebukuro, Shinjuku, and Shibuya. It is therefore expected to be used not only by commuters but also by shoppers. In the future it will be joined with the Toyoko Line to form a direct route to Yokohama.
