Japan launched this artificial satellite in February 2008. It is a stationary satellite located at longitude 143° east, at an altitude of about 36,000 kilometers. It has a super high-speed data transmission rate, with a maximum of 1.2 Gbps. In May 2008, Kizuna succeeded in transmitting data at the world’s highest rate. By installing a small antenna, common households can receive data at a rate of up to 155 Mbps and send at up to 6 Mbps. Kizuna is expected to be especially useful in times of disaster or in areas that do not have adequate transmission infrastructure, such as isolated islands or remote areas.
