This hormone, which induces flowering in plants, is also called florigen. In April 2007 a research group led by Professor Ko Shimamoto at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology succeeded for the first time in identifying this hormone in rice plants. The existence of flowering hormones was hypothesized in 1937, and researchers have sought them for more than 70 years. Finally identifying the flowering hormone was thus a significant achievement for the field. |
