One-segment broadcasting

Launched in April 2006, one-segment broadcasting (called wansegu in Japan) enables owners of cell phones, car navigation systems, and other mobile devices to enjoy terrestrial digital television broadcasts. Digital broadcasts are transmitted over 13 frequency “segments” from terrestrial towers, with wansegu utilizing one of the 13. The popularization of one-segment broadcasts has encouraged partnerships between television stations and cell phone carriers.
