Following Commissioner Hübner(in charge of regional policy at the European Commission) keynote speech, Mr. Hiroyuki Ishige, Vice-Minister for International Affairs of the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, Mr. Masahiro Nakajima,Secretary General for Regional Revitalization Bureau of the Cabinet Secretariat, and Mr. Takashi Shiraishi, Member of the Council for Science and Technology Policy, will talk about the policies and initiatives to revitalize Japanese regions in today’s economic situation.

The sponsors invite applications from young researchers who wish to participate in
the workshop and present a poster.
The participants will be selected from the submitted abstracts by the Selection Committee. OIST will cover registration, accommodation (shared rooms in the Seaside House), meals, and travel expenses for the participants.

UK-Japan 2008 Collaborative Project Grant |

2008 marks the 150th year of diplomatic relationship between the UK and Japan. To celebrate this anniversary, the British Embassy and the British Council are running UK-Japan 2008 showcases the best of contemporary UK’s creativity in the fields of arts, science and innovation, and creative industries. In order to create further collaboration between UK and Japan they invite applications for UK-Japan 2008 Collaborative Project Grant (“The Grant”) that aims to encourage the development of collaborations between the two countries in these fields. They strongly hope that these UK-Japan collaborations will continue to flourish long after the year has come to an end.
The Grant provides a maximum of JPY1,500,000 for a collaborative project. The Grant will be awarded to one project in the fields of Life Science / ICT / Engineering / Climate Change / Science and Innovation / Science Policy / Science Communication. The application deadline is Friday 6 February 2009.
